Toro-3-9-10

March 9, 2010

It's funny to me how some people look at the calendar to gauge what is going on in the City of Savannah, I on the other hand just go by the events. The Enmark Savannah River Bridge run tells me that Christmas is just around the corner and it's holiday time. The Critz Tybee Run tells me it's a new year and here comes the super bowl. The Savannah Komen Race for the Cure tells me spring has sprung. The Savannah Mile tells me SUMMER IS HERE! And the XC Kickoff Classic tells me school is about to start, (yuck) but XC is fun. So what does the March of Dimes Shamrock 5K and Kids Run tell me? It tells me this town is about to be turned upside down, gone nuts and green at the same time.

I have to tell you that I don't drink alcohol at all, just have never acquired a taste for it. But I will tell you that I really enjoy watching all the celebration as Savannah kicks into high gear, and drinking doesn't stop me from enjoying the celebrations and all the happenings. Come on out this week and be a part of what I and many people believe to be the kickoff to St. Patrick's Day celebrations, the Shamrock 5K benefiting March of Dimes. Lots to do for the whole family and one of the largest kid runs you will see in the city. The 5K course the winds through the historic district, a classic Savannah race course that starts and finishes in City Market. Now I know that many of you will be coming out to compete for top prizes in the age group awards and overall, but the highlight of the event is the Brooks Sports / Fleet Feet costume contest where we get all kinds of green characters coming out to compete against each other. I have been in thousands of running events, but I have never been inclined to paint myself green, wear something green or put on a green wig to walk or run a 5K. That is what makes this event so special. $400.00 first prize, $200.00 second prize and $100.00 for third, and oh yeah! don't forget about the most greened out dog who can win $100.00.

Yup I don't need a calendar, this Friday is the Shamrock 5K and Kids Run, HERE COMES ST. PATRICKS DAY IN SAVANNAH! See you there, green or not.
