Well, another Critz Tybee Run has come and gone and we are extremely pleased to announce that we had a sellout of just over 3,000 participants for the half marathon and 5K. I know you can't fool mother nature and mother nature definitely gave us a challenge this year with very high winds and some cool temperatures, but nothing that 3,000 plus hardy runners and walkers couldn't handle, and handle they did. What a good feeling despite the high winds and chilly temperatures to see everyone running hard, walking with purpose, and smiling, against the wind, with the wind, or whatever direction the wind was gusting.
I would like to thank all of our sponsors and volunteers who came out to this event and helped out at packet-pickup, on the course, the starting line, and all the folks at the finish line including the girl scouts, St. Michaels, FCA, and others who showed up and gave to this race. Thanks to the Tybee Police Dept. and the City of Tybee for all they do to help us put on the Critz Tybee Run.
Toro Talk would go on and on if I took the time to tell you all that goes in to putting on a race like the Critz Tybee Run. It's controlled chaos with the help of a lot of good people who enjoy watching others have fun. But I will tell you that it takes a lot to put this event on with the help of a lot of hard work by many people. While driving around with Fleet Feet employee Billy Warren putting out the water stops at 3:30am Saturday morning in the dark, wind, and cold, I couldn't help but smile. I enjoy the fact that we are the fortunate ones who get to do this for a living. When I stand up on the starting line scaffolding while the music is blasting and all the participants leave the starting line with smiles on their faces and fist in the air; all the planning, late nights, and early mornings just fade away and all I can think is FUN!
Congratulations to all the participants, sponsors, and volunteers for another successful 2010 Critz Tybee Run.
