Toro Talk Sept 27

September 27, 2010

I have been in many lead vehicles during runs; I have driven a German troop carrier called the 'unimog' as a lead vehicle with the press riding along for 26.2 miles for a few Austin Marathons; I have been a lead vehicle on a go-cart for a kids run and a 5K; a lead vehicle on a bike for a 5K, 10K, and 30K; on a scooter last year for the Critz Tybee run; I have even been a rabbit on a track, and a rabbit for a kids run wearing bunny ears. But this Friday will be another first for me as I follow Dr. Doll Miller for 60 miles through the streets of Savannah and the surrounding area.

Did someone say 60 miles? Not 6? Or 16? Yes.. 60 miles on her 60th birthday; Doll Miller will run all of those miles, while doing an incredible thing for the Savannah Humane Society. Doll will start her trek at 5:00am inside of The Landings, and should come out of the Landings at about 6:30am - give or take whatever Doll wants (she’s the one running the 60 miles). I will then be Doll's chase, lead, and support vehicle after she exits The Landings. She will then head towards the downtown area where many folks (including you we hope) will meet up with her to run from Forsyth Park through the downtown area. We hope you will join her to raise money and awareness for The Humane Society, for The Greater Savannah and THE CAUSE near and dear to her heart, i.e. a Community Low-Cost Spay/Neuter Clinic.

Imagine running from Savannah to Metter in one day, or being on your feet for 13 hours, or doing any one thing for 13 hours. For a real measurement - if you started driving to Little Rock Arkansas the same time Doll starts her run on Friday October 1st at 5am, you would beat her to Little Rock by an hour. So as you can see this is no small feat.

Come on out and cheer Doll on during this amazing run. There are all kind of opportunities for you to give to this amazing cause, and get your workout for the day in while helping Doll achieve her goals and celebrate her birthday. I will be on Twitter the entire day as I follow Doll; I will be giving updates on where we are, location, and how she is feeling. Feel free to Tweet back any messages you want to get to Doll and I will pass them along.

I never wake up on Monday thinking about what I can do this week that I have never done before. But I am looking forward to this, as it becomes another 'first' in my life. I will also be honored, humbled, and proud to follow this amazing woman on her trek to run 60 miles on her birthday and play a small part in helping Doll raise money and awareness to this cause near and dear to her special running heart.
