Toro Talk nov 15

November 15, 2010

It’s not Extreme Home Make Over in Savannah news, (sorry never have seen one episode), it’s not Rock and Roll Marathon news, nor is it Enmark Savannah River Bridge Run news (which is just around the corner - one week and a few days after Thanksgiving), but it is news just the same and for Savannah it’s a really good thing, WEEEEEE!!!!! We have two Turkey Trots in this town, yes Turkey x two equals double the fun. Not bad for little ole Savannah to have two Turkey Trots.

This Saturday is a long standing running tradition in Savannah as the Saint James Catholic School Turkey Trot will kick off in Isle of Hope. There are many running routes and races in Savannah but this run through Isle of Hope including a section of the course that runs on Bluff Drive is one of the prettiest running courses in all of Savannah running. The Saint James Turkey Trot will start near the fire station and swimming pool in Isle of Hope on Parkersburg Road. The kids run starts at 8am and the 5K will follow at 8:20am. If you have run this event before come and join us again, if you have never run this route do yourself a favor and sign up and check out this beautiful course with a real Savannah feel. There is no better way to prepare for Turkey Day than putting in two Turkey Trots in one week.

We also of course have a Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving Day, what great city doesn’t? ...and this is one great city. A little more than a year ago I met with the United Way and they asked me how they could get their numbers up for their United Way 5K, I said “two words, Turkey Trot” because what great city doesn’t have a Turkey Trot? So last year the United Way of the Coastal Empire put on the first annual and only Savannah Turkey Trot. Over 800 people showed up last year for The Savannah Turkey Trot and we expect well over a thousand folks this year. This is a really fun event to come out on and watch. Not only is there a 5K that starts at Daffin Park, runs through Ardsley park and finishes back in Daffin Park, but there is also a kids run, and a diaper dash on the grass for all the little ones that aren’t quite ready for the big kids run. It was so much fun to see all the families together last year, and to see everyone getting their miles in before they go get their calories on.

Turkey x 2 = FUN!!!!!!!!!! See you at both or see you at one or the other, whichever you decide, GET TURKEY!!!
