Jingle Bells, Jingle Bells, Jingle All the Way to Hutchinson Island this Saturday afternoon for the 1st Annual Jingle Bell 8K and Kid's Run. I said a while back in Toro Talk that every great city has a Turkey Trot, well allow me to repeat myself. Every great running and fitness city also has a Jingle Bell Run, and as we approach the finish line of 2010 guess what, we got one. The 1st Annual Jingle Bell Run will be a great way to cap off a year of running and fitness in our area. The proceeds of the Jingle Bell Run go to the Rape Crisis Center of the Coastal Empire, to support sexual assault victims, their families and friends, and to provide prevention education for all ages. There is no better way to finish your fitness year than with some jingle bells on your shoes, some carolers in your ears, and kindness in your heart, while you run an 8K.
This will be one cool event, as the first 500 folks who register get a free blanket from IKEA in their packet along with what could be the best packet of the year, jingle bells to put on their shoes, Christmas Carolers on the course, and when you finish, a chili cook-off with celebrity judges waiting for you. While you run or if you want to participate, look for the best Santa Claus, Reindeer, Elf, and Candy Canes on the course. And if you are one of the lucky ones to win an age group award, these may be the best awards of the entire year. Each medallion presented as an age group award will have shards of broken plates from the "Throwing Wall"; a wall at the rape crisis center that women can throw donated plates at this wall to do what they can to get out their fears, frustrations and anger. This amazing and necessary wall will play a major role in this event as volunteers from the rape crisis center have taken hours and days to make these awards special, and unforgettable.
Please come out and join us and bring your family and friends, as we finish the year of running and fitness in Savannah. For those of you who ran the bridge run, an 8K around the race track and through Hutchinson Island will be just the way for you to finish your running year. Thank you to all of the ladies and volunteers who put this event together.
Oh what fun it is to run, an 8K all the way!
