BRIDGE RUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That’s right we have rolled back around again to the Enmark Savannah River Bridge Run, and as of now all systems are go. I know the Rock 'n' Roll Marathon will be a very big deal for the City of Savannah from a running and financial standpoint, can’t wait to see it happen. But the Enmark Savannah River Bridge Run is a home grown Savannah event that has taken it’s small roots in the 90’s and is now considered by Bart Yasso the running guru of travel to be the Best Kept Secret in Road Races in America. Well guess what, the secret is out as the Enmark Savannah River Bridge Run goes from the 100’s in the 90’s to 5,000 participants this year. I wish somehow you all could see what I see on race morning at the 5K start across the river on Hutchinson Island as the nearly 3,000 runners, walkers, strollers, friends, families, and competitors, 5Kers and Double Pumpers start the race.
It is an amazing thing to see the variety of athletes in that field. From the costume contest participants, to little ones as young as 6, to older ones in their 80’s and 90’s, it’s a fascinating array of people that come together on that first Saturday in December. We have more than 30 states represented, and to see the firefighters running in their gear, the military guy or gal who just got back from deployment that want to run their guts out or just stroll with the family. I get so many letters describing to me how much fun families have and look forward to the Enmark Savannah River Bridge Run. And of course when you’re done all the goodies will be waiting for you, including a towel from St. Josephs Candler, for you double pumpers, a glass for your accomplishment of tackling that climb 3 times, and as tradition has it, Brunswick stew will be awaiting you at the Michelob Ultra post race party, along with a first for the Enmark Savannah River Bridge Run, LIVE MUSIC!!!!!! from the Train Wrecks.
So much happening at the Enmark Savannah River Bridge Run and every year we seem to add something new just for you. Man if you could just see what I see; if I could I would have all of you at the start reach over and pat the person next to you on the back and say good job, especially if you are from Savannah. It’s because of you all of this is happening, and all of you should be very proud of yourself for taking this event to this level. Do me a favor when you get up on race morning; as you're getting ready in the morning for the race, look in the mirror and pat yourself on the back or give yourself a way to go punch in the arm, you did it Savannah, the Enmark Savannah River Bridge Run, GET PUMPED!
