Race Proceeds     The National Museum of the Mighty Eighth Air Force is the only center dedicated to preserving the history and stories of the Eighth Air Force from World War II to the present.  The Eighth Air Force, established in Savannah on January 28, 1942, soon became known as the “greatest air armada of all time”, and its story can be heard today at the 90,000 square foot facility in Pooler, Georgia.
The 2014 Flying Fortress 5K will support the Museum’s mission, including the ongoing restoration of the B-17 Flying Fortress “City of Savannah”, and the Museum’s CHARACTER COUNTS!® education program, which is the standard code of conduct in the Savannah-Chatham County School District.  In every classroom in Chatham County, the Museum-sponsored program is helping shape the lives of 40,000 students.  The program teaches the lessons of courage, character, and patriotism displayed by the men and women of the Eighth Air Force and encourages students to apply these traits to their everyday lives.  By helping to shape the character of our young people, the CHARACTER COUNTS!® program will have a positive impact in our community for years to come, and your participation makes this program and all the work of the National Museum of the Mighty Eighth Air Force possible.
